Pandora adds Pan and Tilt features to the popular KX-131
(KT&C KPC-S226CB) CCD video camera (and perhaps others like it). It is a precision machined kit of fiberglass parts that can be built in a couple of hours or so. The kit is fun to build and the results look and work fantastic!
The pan and tilt features can be controlled by any two spare proportional channels on your R/C system. Total weight (with two servos and camera) is about 2.75 ounces.
The kit requires assembly. There are about a dozen machined fiberglass parts plus all the assembly hardware. The main chassis can be glued together with epoxy. Or for those with soldering talent, it can be soldered instead. Despite its low weight, it is very strong. Best of all, Pandora can be setup for top (cockpit view) or bottom (undercarriage) mounting.
An optional 5VDC voltage regulator (for powering the camera) is available too. It accepts 6-9VDC and outputs 5VDC (200mA max). It mounts directly on Pandora. It's proximity to the camera, as well as its linear design, all help to ensure clean power. Since it is not a switcher type regulator, there is no additional EMI/RFI noise.
Note: The voltage regulator is available assembled and ready-to-install (requires soldering your video wires to it). For advanced electronic hobbyists, the bare-unpopulated PC board is available for purchase. The electronic components are not included. Please see page 7 in the instruction manual for the required component values.
The required CCD camera and two R/C hobby servos are NOT included. The voltage regulator is available at additional cost. Please see the instruction manual for full details.
Recommended Servos (not included)
Tilt Axis: one Hitec HS-65HB.
